Inmate Gürgin Kurt (63) lost his life yesterday after having a brain stroke in Ahlat prison on Sunday. Kurt had been suffering from 50 percent paralysis and high tension for a long time.

Charged with “being member of an illegal organization”, Kurt had been held in Muş E Type Prison until he was transferred to Ahlat Closed Prison in the Tatvan district of Bitlis four months ago.

Kurt was taken to hospital after the stroke he had the day before. He died yesterday, not responding to the treatment he received after the stroke.

Speaking after Kurt's death, his son Sinan said that he would file a criminal complaint against those responsible for his father's death which -he underlined- was caused by those denying him medical treatment. Sinan said the Ministry of Justice had rejected all the letters of application they presented demanding Kurt's treatment. According to the inmate's son, his father had lost his sight because of the eye lotion given to him by the casualty ward before he died.
