Lokman Akbaba, a prisoner in Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 1 suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Mustafa Kocatürk in Giresun E Type Prison have written letters denouncing violations of rights of prisoners with health problems.
Akbaba wrote in his letter that he has been jailed for 19 years now and suffering from various health problems, including the ALS disease which- he said- is a terminal and progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Remarking that the progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS leads to their death, Akbaba said he already suffered from muscle loss in the left part of his body, and added that he received only a dummy treatment and examination for his disease.
Mustafa Kocatürk in Giresun E Type Prison pointed out in his letter that there has been a remarkable increase in the violation of rights of prisoners since the jailbreak in Bingöl prison.
Kocatürk said he has not been taken to hospital for treatment since early September until which -he said- he would be transferred to Giresun state hospital and treated there at irregular intervals. Kocatürk said the prison administration had promised to deal with the issue but has taken no steps for his treatment within this process.
Kocatürk added that the prison administration hadn't considered it necessary to open an investigation in response to the criminal complaint he filed on the denial of his treatment.
