Sinn Féin spokesperson: The international community must play a constructive role in advancing peace

Sinn Féin's Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire, announced their support for the PKK’s decision.

Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire, Sinn Féin's spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Defence, spoke to ANF about the decision taken at the PKK’s 12th Congress.

Pointing out that the PKK’s decision to disband and disarm followed Leader Öcalan’s Call for Peace and a Democratic Society on 27 February, Ó Laoghaire said: "This is a critical moment in efforts to initiate constructive peace talks between the Kurdish people and Turkey. Sinn Féin clearly supports efforts to establish a regional peace process based on inclusivity, representation, mutual respect, justice, and equality."

Ó Laoghaire also recalled that Sinn Féin’s former President Gerry Adams and MLA Declan Kearney signed a joint declaration on 28 March, along with international leaders and Nobel Peace Prize laureates, in support of Leader Öcalan’s peace call.

Emphasizing Sinn Féin's stance that Leader Öcalan must be released without further delay, Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire added: "The freedom of Abdullah Öcalan is a fundamental element for reaching any political agreement. The international community must play a constructive role in supporting these developments and advancing regional peace."
