HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Deputy President Sırrı Süreyya Önder has declared his assets on Twitter in reply to claims that he had been "allocated accommodation by TOKİ" (TOKİ is a company that builds houses for local authorities, mainly intended for low-income families). Önder said he only possessed an Audi automobile and that he was a tenant, like his daughter, mother, and former spouse. Önder, who is the HDP's candidate in the upcoming Mayoral elections, called on all the other candidates to follow his lead and declare their assets.
Önder added that: "When I entered parliament two years ago I had a TOKİ draw ticket, but I couldn't even pay the first instalment, so they cancelled it. The people who have brought this up are updating something that was cancelled two years ago. I am pleased to say I have no property."
"If anyone finds a land deed belonging to my family they can have it. The same goes for any cash apart from my salary. I'm laying down the challenge! I have an Audi, and that was badly damaged in an accident. I call on all the other mayoral candidates to declare their assets. Human dignity is more important than illegitimately acquired wealth."
