Sixteen year old minor tortured by police

Sixteen year old M.A. was assaulted by police before and after he was detained during a protest demo against the murder by police of three Kurdish civilians in Gever, Hakkari's Yüksekova district, last week.

After M.A. received a medical report on 8 December which confirmed that the boy was assaulted, police received another report on 9 December which alleged that he wasn't assaulted.

The boy's father Hasan Akgönül, who spoke to ANF, said that his son was taken into custody on 8 December when he went to police headquarters after police officers called and informed him about the detention, but was denied permission to see his son who was referred to court one day later.

Akgönül told that he saw his son at the court the other day, adding that; "They had beaten my son so much that I could hardly recognize him. After the court ruled his arrest in the afternoon, we received a report which confirmed that he had been subjected to violence".

At the court, Akgönül spoke to his son who told him that he tried to escape from police but was detained after feeling sick due to the electric light projected on his face. The boy said he was beaten by police both at the scene and the police headquarters.

The man later visited his son in prison on Thursday when he saw that he had further bruises on his face.

Referring to the medical report which denied that his son was assaulted, father Akgönül said they believe police took that report through pressure one day after the incident.

Akgönül noted that his son is currently being held in Diyarbakır E Type prison but will be referred to Siirt soon, and voiced concerns over the difficulties his son will face after the transfer.
