Skorsky helicopter crash: one dead, six injured –UPDATE

A soldier of the Turkish military was killed and six others were injured when a military training plane crashed in the province of Diyarbakýr on Thursday.

The military helicopter reportedly crashed as it tried to make an emergency landing near the Abalý Gendarmerie Post between the district of Lice and province of Bingöl.

In a statement to journalist in the district of Silvan, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Mehdi Eker claimed that the helicopter crashed after striking telpher lines.

While the same allegation has also been put forward by Turkish sources, local sources denied the presence of any telpher lines in the area, adding that the mentioned type of army helicopters cannot make a low level flight 40 meters above the ground, the height of telpher lines.

The scene of the crash is among the primary regions where People’s Defense Forces (HPG) guerrillas often carry out actions and road controls. Local sources indicate the high probability of the helicopter’s being shot down by Kurdish guerrillas. HPG hasn’t made any statement about the incident yet.
