Socialist People’s Party: PKK should be removed from the terror list

In the Socialist People’s Party convention in Denmark, delegates agreed on working to remove the PKK (Kurdistan Worker's Party) from the EU’s list of terrorist organisations.

In the Socialist People’s Party convention in Denmark, delegates agreed on working to remove the PKK (Kurdistan Worker's Party) from the EU’s list of terrorist organisations.

The statement issued on the official website of the Socialist People’s Party (Danish: Socialistisk Folkeparti, SF) says “SF will take an active role in removing the PKK from the EU’s terror list.” The SF stated that they are in agreement with more than 100 European Parliament members and that the EU terror list should be revised and the PKK should be removed from the list.

The written statement regarding the proposal by Villo Sigurdsson and Pernille Frahm from SF’s Frederiksberg branch says that the Kurds are an important actor in Middle East politics and that violence in Turkey has been escalating recently and the bilateral violence should end immediately.

It was stressed in the statement that the PKK represented many Kurds in Turkey and that there could be no solution without the PKK. The statement mentions Kurds’ struggle in Kobanê and points out that calling the PKK “terrorist” means many problems regarding freedom of the press, freedom of expression and the right to life. The statement also includes a reminder that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan himself had confessed to conducting one on one talks with the PKK.

The proposal was accepted unanimously, on which Pernille Frahm said the followings; “More than 100 members of the European Parliament signed a declaration advising the PKK be removed from the EU’s terror list a couple of months ago. In the convention, the SF has declared support for this rightful declaration and that the SF will work in the same direction.” in a statement to Kurdish news website Nudem.
