Socialists detained while remembering the victims of Istanbul attack

ESP members were detained while condemning last night's attack in Istanbul which claimed the lives of 39 people.

Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Istanbul Branch members condemned last night's massacre in Istanbul at the scene, the popular nightclub Reina where 39 people were killed and left dozens of others wounded, 4 of whom are in critical conditions.

ESP members made a statement outside the club and left carnations at the scene today afternoon.

Police detained 14 people joining the commemoration, who include ETHA (Etkin News Agency) news editor İsminaz Temel, Law Bureau of the Oppressed lawyers Sezin Uçar, Gülhan Kaya and Diren Karabağ, ESP Central Board member Mesut Çeki, ESP Party Assembly members Pınar Türk and Volkan Uyar in addition to SGDF (Federation of Socialist Youth Associations) Co-chair Okan Danacı, and some other SGDF members.

The detainees were taken to Arnavutköy police station.
