Solidarity in Switzerland with dismissed mayors

The Zurich-Amed Brotherhood Bridge Committee in Zurich, has protested the AKP-MHP regime for the appointment of trustees to the HDP-ran municipalities of Amed, Van and Mardin.

Markus Kunz from the Green Party (Grunen), Marco Denoth from the Socialist Party (SP) and Andreas Kirstein from the Alternate List (AL) made speeches during the protest in front of the Zurich Canton Parliament.

Speakers demanded the Swiss state to take the necessary steps to put pressure on Turkey on the appointment of trustees and the release of political prisoners.

Corine Mauch, the Mayor of Zurich read the letter she wrote to former co-mayor of Amed Metropolitan Municipality, Gültan Kışıak, who is in prison.

"The mayors of Amed, Van and Mardin were dismissed for unlawful reasons using allegations that do not coincide with any reality on the orders of the Turkish Ministry of the Interior" said the representatives of the Zurich-Amed Brotherhood Bridge Committee.

The representative also reminded that "418 political activists and many HDP politicians have been arrested during the last wave of house raids. We believe this usurpation of rights is a revenge of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against the results of the HDP in the 31 March elections."

The speakers also said that these attacks of the Turkish state in Northern Kurdistan are connected to the continuous threats of attacks against Rojava.

"We, along with the HDP, - said the Swiss representative - will be fighting the second coup of the Erdogan regime since June 2016. The democratic will of the people of Northern Kurdistan must be accepted by the Turkish state. We demand the reinstatement of the mayors and the release of all political prisoners. ”
