Relatives of the prisoners on hunger strike have begun a solidarity vigil in Viranşehir, Urfa.
The prisoners are demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish People's leader Abdullah Öcalan.
The vigil was launched at the HDP district building. HDP city deputy Ayşe Sürücü, Peace Mothers Suruç Council, the relatives of the prisoners on hunger strike and a large number of people joined the action. The relatives of the prisoners made a statement before beginning the action.
HDP Urfa MP Ayşe Sürücü said that the isolation imposed on Öcalan is in fact imposed on all the peoples of Turkey.
Stating that isolation constitutes a crime against humanity, Sürücü added that the government wants to impose this policy on everyone.
“Today - she said - is the day to act. Waiting means being partners to this crime. Everyone should do whatever they can to avoid being a partner in crime.”
Necla Kanar, mother of prisoner Mehmet Kanar, who has been on hunger strike since 1 March said: “We want this persecution to stop. We don't want our kids to fade away in front of our eyes. Enough is enough!”
Kanar added: “For many years our heart has been bleeding, we don't want to watch the death of our children. If they want to kill our children, then kill us too.”
