Solidarity with the hunger strike resistance in Switzerland

In Switzerland protests were organized in order to draw attention to the hunger strike and death fast resistance carried out by thousands of prisoners.

The hunger strike resistance is led by HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven demanding the end of isolation against Öcalan. The protests were organised in the cities of Lucerne, Bern, Geneva and Delémont.

The 3-day solidarity hunger strike in Lucerne ended

The 3-day hunger strike promoted by activists in the center of Lucerne in solidarity with the hunger strike resistance came to an end. 

Activist Zelal Özkan who joined the hunger strike talked to ANF. “Öcalan is our will. The isolation imposed on him is actually being imposed on all Kurdish people. Today, the violence and torture of the fascist state against the prisoners is being used against all Kurdish people. I appeal to all European states and international institutions from here. Stop remaining silence now. Remove isolation, let our children live.”

Saliha Öcalan said: “We have been on hunger strike for 3 days to protest isolation, and express solidarity with the hunger strikers and prisoners on death fast. Isolation should be removed as soon as possible to prevent any death. The responsible institutions should act now.”

Women, wearing the white headscarves of the mothers met in Leodegar churchand then went to Tele 1 and Zaitung newspaper to leave a dossier with information about the hunger strike resistance. 

Bern

A sit-in was held at Waisenhausplatz. The action was organised by CDK-Bern. Activists chanted slogans and demanded the end of isolation against Öcalan.

Geneva

Actions were organised in front of the United Nations (UN) Office in Geneva, and in front of the central railway station in the city of Delémont.

Today in Geneva a 2-day action will take place in the city center. Activist will organise a sit-in on 16 - 17 May from 1 to 6 pm at the Place des Nations - UN.
