People's Defense Forces (HPG) Headquarters Command has made a written statement regarding the ceasefire announced by PJAK (Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan) on September 5 in line with the demands of some mediators.
HPG Headquarters Command has reported that the HPG will follow the ceasefire closely in order to give a chance to peaceful ways and dialogue.
The statement said; "With the hope that the Iranian state's attacks on Media Defense Areas will be ended with this ceasefire, as HPG, we want our people and the public to know that the HPG will follow the ceasefire process and be positioned according to the requirements of the process unless Iran conducts any attacks on Media Defense Areas and Kandil."
While PJAK referred to a mediator specifying further, Iran has on the other hand openly said that the Kurdistan Regional Government is the mediator.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) called Tuesday on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq's north to offer clarifications about the ceasefire that was announced by the Kurdish rebel group PJAK.
The call came as the PJAK announced on Sunday a ceasefire that would be effective as of Sept. 5 if the Iranian authorities decided to accept it. The PJAK said in a statement that "friends" had mediated between Iran and the group to end fighting.
The semi-official Fars News Agency (FNA) quoted a statement released by the IRGC saying the content of the unilateral ceasefire by PJAK was not clear and therefore the "the Iraqi Kurdistan regional government which has mediated the measure is required to adopt the necessary action to clarify the goal of the declared ceasefire as soon as possible".
"The IRGC will announce its official view once the terms and contents of the (proposed) ceasefire are specified," the statement added.
The statements go on to say the IRGC will announce its position regarding the ceasefire as soon as the terms and content of the ceasefire are clear to them.
In late August, Nechirvan Barzani, regional president's nephew and his deputy in leadership of his Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) visited Iran to discuss ways to bring the bombardments to an end.
The ceasefire announced by PJAK was rejected Monday by Iranian authorities deeming is worthless before the PJAK leaves the bordering areas.
