Strasbourg hunger strike reached day 21

The 15 hunger strikers in Strasbourg are receiving visitors from all over Europe.

On 17 December, 15 activists, including HDP former deputy Dilek Öcalan and KCDK-E Co-Chair Yüksel Koç, began a hunger strike to demand the end of the isolation regime imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The hunger strikers are being visited by scores of friends, family members and activists every day.

The activists on hunger strike are being supported in their action by Kurdistan institutions, Turkish left institutions, democratic and socialist movements and organisations, artists and religious groups.

Alevi organisations support the action

Every day, hundreds of people visit the hunger strikers in Strasbourg who are on their 21st day of fast.

Revolutionary Alevis' Union (DAB) Co-President Veli Balaban, Pir İbrahim Kılavuz, artist Şiyar Munzur, Can TV employees, Democratic Alevi Federation (FEDA) co-chairs Bedrana Yıldırım and Veli Kaya and FEDA's Paris, Hamburg, Marseille and Cologne executives and members as well as visitors from Hessen went to see the hunger strikers.

The TV staff interviewed the activists as well as the visitors.

FEY-KOM: We commend hunger strikers  

Activists from the Austrian Democratic Kurdish Community Council (FEY-KOM), came to visit the hunger strikers travelling some 800 km. Speaking on behalf of FEY-KOM, Halil Seven said that the activists commended this “honorable action”.

Seven also commended HDP Hakkari MP, Leyla Güven, who continues her hunger strike in Amed prison, on the 60th day today.

Activist’s mother: Proud of my daughter

Fatma Başaran, mother of Nilgün Başaran, a hunger striker in Strasbourg, said she was proud that her daughter has taken part in such an action.

Addressing the Kurdish people, Fatma Basaran called for support to the action and the current process.

Petition to the CPT

Kurds and Europeans visiting the action also signed the petition initiated to call on the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and the Council of Europe to act for the lifting of the isolation regime imposed on the Kurdish People's Leader.
