Strike of BEDAŞ workers enters 28th day
Five workers of the BEDAŞ (Boğaziçi Electric Distribution Corporation) have been on strike since 13 November to protest against their dismissal due to their membership to DİSK's Enerji Sen union.
Workers have staged their protest outside the general directorate of BEDAŞ in Taksim, where they set up a tent on the 28th day of the strike, but were intervened by police on the grounds that they “occupy the pavement”.
One among the workers on strike, Ali Çakır, said in a short statement to the press that; “Police forces are trying to deny us our right to protest which is a part of the rule of law the Prime Minister is talking about”. Çakır stressed that they were determined to keep their protest going.
Hanging a banner outside the BEDAŞ general directorate on 13 November, which reads “We demand job security and human life against sub-contracted work and work killings”, workers issued a press statement which was also supported by union members one day later. Workers on strike staged a demo outside The Grand Tarabya Hotel where Atlantic Council's Summit on Energy and Economy took place on 22 November.
