Surrounded prisoners’ families hold sit-in

Mothers of prisoners who were to hold a demonstration in the Kosuyolu Park to draw attention to the hunger strikes started a sit-in when the police surrounded them at the Batikent Crossing.

Relatives of prisoners on hunger strike were to hold a demonstration in the Kosuyolu Park in Amed’s baglar district, but were stopped and surrounded by the police at the Batikent Crossing. The mothers, supported by HDP Amed MP Saliha Aydeniz and Free Women’s Movement /TJA) activist Ayse Gokkan, started a sit-in at the sidewalk they were at when surrounded.

The police then separated the women and men into two groups and surrounded them. HDP MP Aydeniz said, “They think they can push the people as they wish. But this people will end the isolation and support the prisons.”

As the protest continued under police blockade, some citizens passing by the crossing said, “Isn’t the isolation unlawful, why won’t you stop that?”

As the blockade continued, a group of relatives gathered in the street where Prisoners’ Families Solidarity Association (TUAY-DER) offices are located were also stopped and surrounded by the police.
