Eight of the nine people, including sons of cabinet ministers and bureaucrats, arrested in an operation to counter corruption and bribery, have been remanded in custody. This morning 50 more suspects were taken to court. Yesterday afternoon 9 of those arrested in raids on 17 December were taken to the Istanbul Court of Justice at Çağlayan, where 7 of them, Kader Demir, Mustafa Bayhan, Yener Çavdar, Selim Velioğlu, Ümit İhsan Döğer, Sebahattin Demir ve İmren Özbey were remanded in custody, due to the existence of compelling evidence, charged with "accepting and facilitating bribes". In the evening an 8th suspect, Hasan Yılmaz, was also remanded in custody.
Amongst those taken to court early this morning was Barış Güler, the son of Interior Minister Muammer Güler, Fatih Mayor Mustafa Demir and businessman Ali Ağaoğlu
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Cemil Çicek, refuted claims in the media that a police report had been sent to parliament regarding ministers.
AKP Deputy President Hüseyin Çelik denied on a TV programme suggestions that cabinet ministers had resigned, saying: "These allegations are totally untrue. The Prime Minister was already preparing some changes to the cabinet."
