Swedish MEP Björk visited Kurds in Stockholm

Björk said that the only party in Sweden that requested the PKK to be removed from the list is the Left Party.

Visiting the Democratic Kurdish Community Center in Gävleborg, member of the European Parliament Malin Björk from the Swedish Left Party made some comments.Speaking about the decisions taken by the European Court of Human Rights and the Council of Europe regarding Öcalan’s isolation and Leyla Güven, Swedish Left Party deputy Malin Björk said: “Erdoğan has gone as far as trying to confuse and direct the internal affairs of the European Union and has become dangerous now. Unfortunately, Europe does not have a strong stance against it.”

Noting that the Turkish state used the PKK's presence in the list of terrorists, Björk said that the only party in Sweden that requested the PKK to be removed from the list is the Left Party.

Björk added that the Kurdish people should try and get other parties to take the same stance.

Answering to a question from activists as to why the European Union had not taken a stronger position against isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and Turkey, for example by imposing sanctions, Björk said: “We have tried to get legal paths to work in the EU so far. However, we will discuss the issue with the EU commissioners responsible for trade and economy to get different outcomes.”

Ending her remarks, Björk reiterated her and her party’s solidarity with prisoners and activists on hunger strikes for the removal of isolation.
