As the civil war in Syria continues to acquire a new dimension, the Swiss Federal Parliament, which has passed important decisions, has appealed to the UN to call for a new ceasefire and start a new peace process in Syria which should include Kurds.
The Swiss Foreign Relations Commission's proposal on the Syrian issue, which was presented to the Swiss Federal Parliament a few months ago, was accepted today, after the debate in the parliament. Important decisions were agreed at the meeting, and were adopted by a majority of the members of the Swiss Federal Parliament.
The document approved by the Parliament titled "End the war crimes in Syria”, reminded of the UN Security Council meeting on the Syrian war and its call for a ceasefire on 24 February.
The document approved by the Swiss Federal Parliament expresses a strong condemnation of the violation of human rights and international law in Syria.
The parliament, calling on all parties to the conflict to respect international law, warned that war crimes were committed in Syria and that states and individuals were responsible for these crimes.
“The parties must adhere to international law and withdraw their military forces from the Syrian territory," the statement said, urging all parties to put an end to military interventions in Syria.
The Federal Parliament wants the UN to take action by using its power to counter what is happening in Syria. At the same time, the Parliament is calling on the UN to declare a new ceasefire in Syria and launch a new peace talks involving the Kurds.
