Switzerland sentences Turkish jihadist to prison

A Swiss court has sentenced a special security officer with Turkish roots to 2 years and 6 months in prison for aiding radical jihadist organisations.

Last February a 32 years old special security officer with Turkish roots was arrested in the Swiss city of Lugano on grounds of recruiting people to radical jihadist organisations and spreading propaganda for these organisations on social media.

The jailed convict appeared at the Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona yesterday and admitted all charges and expressed his remorse. The court ruled a 2 years and 6 months prison sentence for “recruiting people for radical jihadist organisations”, as well as 133 thousand Swiss Franc for court costs.

The convict has already spent 6 months in prison and the remaining two years were conditionally pronounced with a probationary period of three years, according to the verdict of the Federal Criminal Court.

The Swiss-Turkish convict was reportedly engaged in recruiting members to jihadist organisations in Syria like Al-Nusra and Al-Qaeda in the Swiss cantons and in Italy since 2014.
