Syrian regime forces announce the fall of Aleppo

Syrian regime forces announced the fall of Aleppo, which had been besieged for several months now.

Syrian army and local sources claimed that all anti-regime forces are trapped in a small area to the southeast of Aleppo and the city fell completely.

Syrian army general Zayd al Saleh made an announcement in Sheikh Said neighborhood, which had been taken on Monday, and said that the gang groups backed by Turkey and Saudi Arabia only have the options of ‘surrender or death.’ Anti-regime groups are reportedly trapped in a small area of a few blocks.

Tens of thousands of people have lost their lives during the clashes in Aleppo since 2012, and gang groups affiliated with Turkey and Saudi Arabia had controlled most of the city until this summer. Regime forces had besieged the city in July 2016 and launched an operation that has lasted until today. Tens of thousands of civilians had taken refuge in Kurdish controlled Sheikh Maqsoud and other neighborhoods.
