The Syrian women initiative issued a final statement in the city of Qamishlo last Thursday, after its First Conference. Representatives of women associations, organizations and committees were present and had gathered under the slogan of ‘’women are one regardless of origin, religion or nationality’’.

The conference agreed upon the following:

1. An opening of a initiatives center in Qamishlo and branches in other major cities to follow up cases regarding oppression of women in the area of Western Kurdistan.
2. Submitting conference declarations and decisions to other arabic states.
3. Submitting conference declarations and decision to the European Council, Arab Universities and the Syrian National Council.
4. Set up annual statistical oversight to map cases of violence against women.
5. Perform research and investigation regarding the situation of women and cases of rape during the war.
6. Investigating political arrests carried out by the Syrian regime.
7. Set up a website dedicated to the initiative in order to distribute information.
8. Forming a Syrian womens council that includes all components of society before the next conference.
