Iraqi President Jalal Talabani is said to be in a serious but stable condition after beeing hospitalized on Tuesday. The president's office said Talabani, 79, suffered a stroke.

Talabani's office also confirmed that tests revealed the president suffered from a hardening of his arteries.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki was at the hospital to visit the Kurdish leader.
