Temelli: Local elections are an opportunity to work for peace

The HDP has already started work on local elections to be held on 31 March 2019, said co-chair Temelli.

HDP co-chair Sezai Temelli attended a public meeting held in the Şırnak HDP Provincial building.

Evaluating the latest political developments, Temelli said that the HDP has already started work on local elections to be held on 31 March 2019.

Temelli remarked that next spring the people will send the Kurdistan municipalities’ state-appointed trustees into the bin.

"We will take back all of our municipalities. - Temelli said - People's municipalities cannot be turned into police stations. There are 40 years of struggle at stake. Botan is an example for all the people of Turkey”.

Calling all the social opposition, labor, democracy, women and youth, Temelli said: “Let us get rid of the Palace regime once and for all. Let’s raise our struggle against fascism. Elections are not the solution for everything, we know it, but in terms of our struggle elections represent an opportunity to strengthen local democracy. We will not only get municipalities but also we will govern ourselves and our city, we will have power, authority, and decision”.

Temelli underlined that the AKP policy is a policy of war, hostility and hatred. And this, he said only bring more war and pain to this country.

“The ruling power - said Temelli - is trying to decide on the future of Syria with France, Germany and Russia. The Syrian peoples will decide the future of Syria. The whole world should stand for the right of the Syrian people to decide their future. A future of democracy and peace, and not a future of war”.

Temelli stated that the HDP will work 24 hours a day until all political prisoners, especially Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, were released.

“We will continue our work - he said - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The isolation [imposed on the Kurdish People’s Leader] is isolation imposed on democracy, peace, human rights and the rule of law”.

HDP Co-chair ended his remarks by underlining that “at the heart of the peace issue is the Kurdish problem. If this is solved in Turkey problems will be solved in the Middle East as well. We call on people to take the initiative on their own hands. Together we can take the initiative and work for a solution. This is why the local elections would provide an opportunity for us to work for a solution”.
