Ten people arrested in Mersin - UPDATE

Ten people have been arrested in Mersin for alleged membership to the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) organization.

The KCK operation in the city on 3 November ended up with the detention of 24 people among whom 14 were released after giving testimony to the court.

DÝHA Mersin reporter Zeynep Kuriþ, Mersin Göç-Der Chairman Selahattin Güvenç, BDP Akdeniz Municipality’s ÝÞTAR (Counseling Center for Women’s Solidarity) administrator Menice Ürün, MKM (Mesopotamia Cultutal Center) member artist Kadir Çat and BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) provincial executives are among those who have been sent to prison for alleged ties to the KCK organization.

Detained women were sent to the Karataþ Prison and men to Kürkçüler F Type Prison in Adana.

On the other hand, 23 people have been taken into custody in the province of Van on Wednesday following simultaneous raids in 23 addresses at early morning hours. Detainees are accused of having joined various demonstrations at different dates. Ten children have also been detained in the province of Siirt on Wednesday. The minors are accused of "throwing stone to police" and "damaging public property".

Four BDP executives who were detained in Mardin's Midyat district three days ago have also been arrested today for allegedly "being members and spreading propaganda of an illegal organization". Detainees were sent to Midyat M Type Closed Prison.
