Ten taken into custody in Şırnak

Nine people were taken into custody following a series of house raids in Şırnak's Cizre district early Monday. One other person was detained in the town of Kumçatı.

Police units, having blockaded a number of neighborhoods in Cizre with armored vehicles by last night, raided many houses in the morning. The operation by plainclothes policemen and special operation teams ended up with the detention of nine people, including 33 years old Nurettin Başaran who is confined to bed, paralysed from the waist down.

Başaran's wife Kania Başaran said hundreds of police officers raided their house and started to search it in detail for hours. The woman said her child was scared as policemen held a gun against her head during the raid and search in the house.

Among those detained in Cizre are three minors at the ages of 14 and 15. The reason for the detentions is not known yet. Detainees were taken to the police headquarters in Cizre.

On the other hand, 50 years old Osman Ayan was also taken into custody as a result of house raids police carried out in the town of Kumçatı (Dergulê) early Monday. Ayan was taken to Şırnak police directorate, with confidentiality reportedly declared on his file.
