The AKP-MHP government has seized the Kars Municipality after the arrest of co-mayor Ayhan Bilgen first and the subsequent detention of the other co-mayor, Şevin Alaca.

Governor Türker Öksüz was appointed as trustee to Kars Municipality.

5 Municipal Council members and 2 Provincial General Assembly members, as well as co-mayor Şevin Alaca, were suspended from duty.
