'The trustees won't govern us'

HDP residents living in Istanbul said the will of the people should be respected and added that the trustees cannot rule.

The HDP voters in Istanbul gave a strategic support to Ekrem Imamoğlu in the 31 March and 23 June elections.

HDP voters are uncomfortable with the current silence of the opposition groups living in Istanbul about the appointment of trustees in Amed, Van and Mardin.

The people in the cities of Amed, Van and Mardin have been reacting to the usurpation of their will since day one of the appointment of the trustees. And thus do HDP voters living in Istanbul.

Such as the case of Irfan Genç, an HDP member who told ANF that he has been living in Istanbul for more than 20 years and that he is Kurdish. “Of course we will protect our will”.

Hasan Ay added: "I condemn this fascist practice."

Necati Yıldız recalled the AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan frequently saying that the 'ballot boxes are the will of the people' and added: “Clearly he was not sincere. Those who fear the people and their will cannot rule this country with trustees."

Yusuf Libas also said that the trustees are an usurpation of the will of the people. "The people voted for the HDP and their vote was usurped. This just can't happen."

Zarife Inan, who has been living in Istanbul for almost 30 years as a victim of forced displacement, said: “When the Istanbul elections were cancelled, we took to the streets, saying that it was unjust and unlawful. I walked arm in arm with my neighbors. But today we see people turning their backs on us."
