They killed Roboski victims twice, say families

Families of Roboski victims gathered in front of the Turkish Parliament on Thursday to protest against the approval of the Uludere Report by the Human Rights Commission of the Parliament which concluded that there was no deliberate action or intention in the operation against 34 Kurdish civilians who were killed with Turkish warplanes on 28 December 2011. Families said the report has killed the victims for the second time.

The protest demo was also joined by Peace and democracy Party (BDP) group deputy chair İdris Baluken, Şırnak deputy Hasip Kaplan, Mersin deputy Ertuğrul Kürkçü and Urfa deputy İbrahim Binici.

Speaking here, MP Kaplan said that the report was so to say prepared to absolve the government from the massacre by naming nobody responsible for the mass killing of 34 people most of whom were children. Kaplan remarked that the confidentiality decision by the Public Prosecutor of Diyarbakır and the nondelivery of documents on the incident indicated the parliament's lack of authority. He pointed out that they would appeal to all national and international authorities demanding justice for the victims of the Roboski Massacre. Kaplan added that the government must apologize from the families of victims to relieve their pain.

Speaking on behalf of Roboski families, Veli Encü said that the Turkish state not only killed 34 innocent people in an organized and deliberate way but also tried to prevent the struggle their families have given demanding that light is shed on the massacre.

“Besides pressures and threats of arrest, we have also faced statements that once again deeply hurt us, keeping our pain as fresh as on the first day in the 456 days that have passed since the massacre. The disgraceful report which has failed to shed light on the mass killing has been approved by the deputies of the AKP government”, Encü said and underlined that the parliament has left a black mark and a scandal in the history by releasing this report.

Referring to the ongoing process of talks for a democratic solution to the Kurdish question, Encü said that Roboski families supported this process but found the government and state authorities insincere about it. “Roboski is the way to peace and the government should face the Roboski Massacre if it is truly sincere about achieving peace. The disgraceful report the parliament has approved has been the greatest step to sabotage this process in which we were hoping to make mutual amends with the state for all that has past", he added and ended his statement by once again calling on the government to bring perpetrators to justice.

The protest demo was followed by a sit-in where families promised to give a stronger struggle for justice and threw their identity cards on the ground, saying they didn't want to have these id cards any more.

“We won't say 'long live the motherland' for the land meant our children who are dead now”, they said.
