Third night of protest in Leipzig

High rents have been protested in Leipzig for three nights.

Violent clashes took place with the police on Sunday night. Some police vehicles were burned.

Similar protests have taken place on Thursday and Friday night. According to the police, 9 police officers were injured in the clashes. No information could be obtained about the number of activists injured as a result of police violence.

The protests took place following the call of radical leftist groups. Activists are reacting to the purchase of many buildings by investor groups in this city in the east of the country.

The police evicting two buildings during the week was the last straw.

Tension is particularly high in Leipzig's Connewitz neighbourhood. A large number of autonomous groups and radical left sympathizers live in this neighbourhood.
