Thirteen arrested in Ankara
Thirteen people have been arrested in Ankara for allegedly staging a demonstration in solidarity with Gezi Pak resistance.
Twenty three people had been taken into custody as a result of police raid targeting 30 addresses in the capital city on Tuesday. 19 among them were referred to Ankara Courthouse Thursday morning after bearing testimony to police. The court released six on conditions of judicial control.
In a press statement condemning the arrest of Gezi protestors, ESP (Socialist Party of the Oppressed) Ankara provincial chairperson Fadime Çelebi pointed out that the AKP government continued its revenge attacks against Taksim resistance and the civil uprising it has brought about early June. Çelebi said these attacks mainly targeted revolutionary, socialist and opponent circles and strongly condemned the release of the police officer who shot protestor Ethem Sarısülük on the head with a rubber bullet in Ankara. “The state continues protecting its good children”, Çelebi said.
On the other hand, three people have been taken into custody in the southern province of Adana early Friday for joining Gezi protests in the city. The detainees are ESP central executive board member Serpil Arslan, ESP party council member Meriç Solmaz and ESP member Aziz Ay.
Arslan had been taken into custody and released early this week.
