Thirteen Gezi protestors arrested in İzmir

Thirteen people have been remanded in custody in the western province of İzmir on Sunday for joining Gezi protests in the city.

Early Thursday morning, at around 06:30 a.m., police had taken 48 people into custody following a series of raids in many houses as well as the tents protestors set up in the central Gündoğdu Square in solidarity with Gezi protests. 34 were released after being referred to the prosecution office.

Fourteen others were referred to a court on Saturday after bearing testimony to the prosecutor. The court ruled the arrest of thirteen protestors and released one other.

People in İzmir will stage a demonstration in Konak today in the afternoon in solidarity with the protestors remanded in custody.
