Thousands of people joined the funeral in the province of Van for YJA STAR guerrilla Aycan Duman (Sorxwin Can) who lost her life in 2012.

A convoy of hundreds of vehicles covered with flags of the PKK and posters of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan accompanied Aycan Duman (Sorxwin Can) on the way to the martyrs' cemetery in Yeni Mahalle.

HDP Van co-chair Derya Hayva, DBP Van co-chairs Hamiyet Şahin and Avukat Miraz Çallı, activists of Peace Mothers Initiative, MEYA-DER representatives, Van co-mayor Hatice Çoban, co-chairs of district municipalities as well as representatives of many NGOs were also present at the funeral which began with one minute's silence for all those martyred in the Kurdish freedom struggle.

Speaking at the funeral, DBP Van co-chair Hamiyet Şahin pointed out that the Kurdish freedom fight was a women's struggle, vowing to remain loyal to the memory of female fighters who were martyred fighting for their lands and people.

Aycan's father Eyüp Duman said his daughter was a martyr of Kurdistan, offering condolence to the Kurdish people and leader Abdullah Öcalan.
