Thousands in Nusaybin protest the embargo on Rojava

Thousands of people coming from everywhere, mostly women, have begun to gather in front of Mitanni Cultural Center in the Nusaybin district of Mardin for the mass demonstration organized by Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Woman's Council in protest against the embargo imposed on the people of Rojava, West Kurdistan.

“The sun rising from Amara will liberate Rojava” reads a banner women in the front rank are carrying, together with photographs of Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez, three Kurdish women who were executed in the French capital Paris on 9 January. "Jin jiyan azadi" [Woman-Life-Freedom]and "Şehit namırın" [Martyrs are immortal] are among the most chanted slogans in the area.

The demonstration in Nusaybin is also joined by Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Batman deputy Ayla Akat Ata, BDP provincial and district organizations in Mardin, members of BDP and DTK Woman's Council, as well as Zübeyde Teker, president of the Associations of Help for Prisoners' Families Federation (TUHAD-FED).
