Thousands gathered in Tahrir Square in central Baghdad today afternoon demanding the forming of a new government as immediate as possible.

Thousands gathered in Tahrir Square in central Baghdad today afternoon demanding the forming of a new government as immediate as possible.

At around 14:45 demonstrators broke the police blockade in the Green Zone and entered the Parliament after storming the area which houses government buildings and foreign embassies. Protestors occupied the parliament which was therewith evacuated.

The protest came after the parliament's failure to gather for a vote on new cabinet because absolute majority couldn't be constituted. Tens of thousands that had already gathered outside the parliament therewith protested Abadi's government and thousands of them entered the parliament building.

Demonstrators said they were staging the protest on the call of Muqtada al-Sadr, the Iraqi Shia leader, stressing that they would continue the protest until their reform demand is answered.
