Three members of same family died in Serêkaniyê

Ebdulrehman Ehmed Qewas, a Kurdish fighter in the People's Defense Units (YPG) forces, lost his life in clashes with allegedly Turkey-backed gang groups in the neighborhood of Ebrê, in the West Kurdistan city of Serêkaniyê, on Saturday. Ebdulrehman has been the third person from the same family who lost their life in clashes in Serêkaniyê in recent months.

The resistance of YPG forces continues against the attacks of Turkey-backed armed groups which have been suffering heavy losses in clashes with Kurdish militants who are fighting to prevent the armed groups from taking the city of  Serêkaniyê  and from carrying out attacks on other cities. YPG forces have also lost many its members in clashes with the armed groups which the Turkish state has been providing with all kinds of necessary military equipment, including heavy weapons and tanks.

The Qewas family from Serêkaniyê has lost three of its members in clashes in the Kurdish city. Before Ebdulrehman Ehmed Qewas, father of four,  another YPG fighter Ferhad Elî Qewas had been killed and  Xalid Elî Qewas injured in clashes several days ago. Another member of the family, YPG fighter Ehmed Sîno Qewas, had also been killed in clashes with gang groups in November 2012.

Releasing a statement to condemn the attacks on the Kurdish city on 20 January, West Kurdistan Movement for Democratic Society (TEV-DEM) said the purpose of the attacks was to make the Kurdish region unstable and to exclude Kurds from the Syrian revolution by severing their ties with other peoples. TEV-DEM called on all non-governmental organizations, democratic movements, circles and individuals to band together against the attacks and described this unity as "the fight for presence or absence".
