Josh Schoolar (Brusk Kawa) was a volunteer in the International Freedom Battalion (IFB). He travelled to Syria in 2017 -first volunteering in civil society with SYPG, and later taking up arms to fight ISIS in the liberation of Raqqa.

Josh was a dedicated revolutionary, community organiser and activist. He died in Manchester on September 20 as a result of a illness. 

Internationalists and Schoolar's friends said: "Josh is not among us today. He has always set an example and instilled courage in us. It is our honor to take care of his memory."

An event was held in Mont-Soleil mountain in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. Torches were lit in memory of Schoolar, ended after planting the saplings.

Josh Schoolar was commemorated in Manchester with the participation of his family and friends.
