Trump believes fight against DAESH achieved goal

According to reports by Reuters and numerous American media, the US military troops are to be withdrawn from Syria.

US President Donald Trump signalled that the target was achieved in the fight against DAESH and hinted that American forces could be withdrawn from Syria.

“We have defeated ISIS in Syria," US President Donald Trump said in a statement on Twitter. He argued that this was the only reason for US presence in Syria during his presidency.

According to reports by Reuters and numerous American media, the US military troops are to be withdrawn from Syria.

“The decision was taken yesterday (Tuesday)”, an American official told AFP, adding withdrawal would be “full and rapid.”

If confirmed, this will be a 180 degree turn compared to the US statement saying they will keep a long-term military presence in Syria.

A number of high-ranking officials, including Defense Minister Jim Mattis, had said that the American military presence was inevitable to prevent the resurgence of ISIS.

On a separate news, the State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Turkey of eighty (80) Patriot MIM-104E Guidance Enhanced Missiles (GEM-T) missiles, sixty (60) PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missiles and related equipment for an estimated cost of $3.5 billion.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today, Wednesday.
