In Hakkari, known as the city of mountains and water, people cannot find clean water. Hakkari city center is surrounded by mountains, and there are many streams passing through the city center. Berçelan and Mergabutan Plateau, which are very close to Hakkari city center, are very rich in terms of clean water resources.

When the HDP was governing Hakkari Municipality, the drinking water problem was solved by bringing clean drinking water from Berçalan Plateau to Hakkari city center and its neighbourhoods.

However, as soon as the trustee took over the municipality, water networks that were working during the HDP time, started to malfunction. The trustee left the people of Hakkari longing for clean water for months. The AKP and the trustee do not provide any service to the people of Hakkari, while it ensures services are provided to military barracks and police stations.

To worsen the problem, it has been reported that the drinking water tanks and networks are open, thus sewage water get mixed with clean water. The people reclaiming clean water protest against the trustee.

Sümbül neighbourhood residents said they had no drinking water for months. Ahmet B. told ANF that they carried water to their homes from water sources 20 km away. “This situation has been going on for months. The citizens are protesting the trustee because we have to order water to make sure we have clean water during the pandemic.”
