Kurds living in Istanbul reacted to the dismissal of HDP's legally and democratically elected mayors in North Kurdistan. Noting that the people appointed with an election should go only with a new elections, Kurds say that the denial of Kurdish votes by the AKP should end.
Ipek Tekin said that the aim of the AKP is having people get used to the trustees. "They are imposing us the trustees - she said - and they are trying to get us used to it."
Özlen Noyan reminded that the elected mayors have been replaced by Governors appointed by the State; "Trustees are only appointed to the municipalities where Kurds have chosen their representatives. If it continues like this, we won't go to vote. Cities in the west are never appointed trustees. A trustee was only appointed and for a very short period to a CHP representative in Izmir. However, lawlessness will spread everywhere in Turkey."
Ramazan Kırpınar said: "After the coup attempt, democratic institutions are being governed by trustees. They do not recognize the will of the Kurdish people."
Özcan Alp said that Turkey under the AKP is moving away from international law. "The AKP fears Kurds and their proposals. It fears the HDP and its political program. We have been doing our part for the democratization of the country for years."
