TUAD and ÖHD announce the demands of prisoners on hunger strike

The Association for Solidarity with the Families of Prisoners (TUAD) and the prison committee of the Association of Liberal Lawyers (ÖHD) have released a written statement following the visit their executives paid to the prisoners on hunger strike in Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 2 on Monday.

Giving information about the situation of prisoners on strike, TUAD and ÖHD said that the inmates involved in the strike suffered from dizziness, exhaustion, nausea, sleeplessness and weight loss. The associations said striking prisoners refused to receive medical treatment and were denied to receive vitamin b1.

TUAD and ÖHD listed the demands of prisoners on strike as follows,

-ending of physical and pyshological tortures and procedural-administrative act against relevant prison officials

-equal treatment to all prisoners in terms of the right to visit

-ending of the seizure of prisoners' notebooks by the prison staff and arbitrary practices during searches

-ending of the disciplinary punishments

-improvement of conditions of inmates serving a heavy life sentence

-withdrawal of the decision imposing 10 books and 10 papers restriction

-practice of changes of inmates' places according to demands

-ending of the naked body search while entering the prison

The statement by associations said that the prisoners will not end their indefinite-irreversible hunger strike unless their demands are met.

The associations also remarked that inmates were attacked by prison officers last week and, that the prison administration seized all the letters in which prisoners highlighted their demands.

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Istanbul deputy Sebahat Tuncel and a delegation of ÖHD and TUAD will meet the chief public prosecutor of Tekirdağ, the prison administrator and the inmates on hunger strike on Wednesday.
