Turgut: Öcalan says peace, the State says war

In 2009, a Peace Group went to Turkey from Maxmur Camp, responding to Öcalan's call.

In 2009, Nurettin Turgut was the spokesperson of the Peace Group that went to Turkey answering the call from Abdullah Öcalan.

Turgut said: "No matter how much efforts for peace Kurds make. As we have seen Öcalan proposed peace and the government responds with trustees. This trustees decision means war with judicial methods."

Kurdish People Abdullah Öcalan's lawyers went to Imralı on 7 August to meet with their client. After that meeting, Öcalan's message was shared with the public.

In his message Öcalan said: "I am trying to open a space for the Kurds. Let's solve the Kurdish question. I can eliminate the matter and possibility of conflict within a week. I am ready for a solution, I trust myself. But the state as well as the mind behind it must do the necessary, too.”

In 2009, a Peace Group went to Turkey from Maxmur Camp, responding to Öcalan's call. The spokesperson of that Peace Group was  Nurettin Turgut.

He said that Öcalan did not diminish his efforts to achieve peace for the last 30 years and added: "Our leadership has always made a great effort to create this peace agenda and keep it alive. He believed that the Kurdish issue that lasted more than 100 years would not end with conflict and war. These peace and solution efforts continued with a process that he started in 1993. Towards 2005, these peace efforts were on the agenda much more. But unfortunately we know all too well and we saw it, that the state has never sought a solution."

Despite all the steps taken by the state, contrary to peace, Kurdish People's Leader Öcalan and the Kurdish people are always on the side of peace, said Turgut.

"Our Peace Group initiative was a longing for peace. But the state responded with slamming the door on our face. During the peace talks that began in 2013, the country enjoyed a periodo of calm. There was a recovery in the economy and news of deaths stopped. Unfortunately once again it was the State that overthrown this calm situation."

Today, said Turgut, "Öcalan ha once again called for peace. The State should listen to this call and take steps to achieve peace. Instead, what the State does? Suspend three mayors in HDP-run municipalities. This clearly means that the State does not want peace."

Turgut added: "Öcalan says peace, the state says war by appointing the trustees. We will continue to say peace at every opportunity, but we will also struggle against this single-minded, racist and anti-democratic approaches."

Turgut called "not just on the Kurdish people. I urge everyone who says I am a human being and have a conscience to be a partner in this struggle."
