Türk: Kurds marching towards freedom on their path

A "solidarity concert with Rojava" has taken place at the recently opened Ş. Eli Cultural Centre in the Kızıltepe district of Mardin.

Speaking here, DTK (Democratic Society Congress) co-chair and Mardin MP Ahmet Türk commemorated M. Reşit İşbilir and Veysel İşbilir, who were murdered by police in Gever, Hakkari's Yüksekova district on 6 December.

Türk emphasized that Kurds are a significant actor in the Middle East and that without the freedom of the Kurds it will be impossible for the other peoples to be free. He added that; "This century is the Kurds' century. We shall establish our democratic autonomy in Rojava (West), Bakur (North), Başur (South) and Rojhilat (East) and liberate Kurdistan. This is our belief. We support the resistance in Rojava. All Kurdish politicians should realize that the resistance in Rojava is the honour of the Northern, Eastern and Southern Kurds. Some people see their own interests before the interests of Kurdish society. This is wrong and a great betrayal of the Kurdish people. Politicians should adopt policies that are in the interests of the Kurdish people. If the struggle in Rojava develops tomorrow it will develop in the North. This is why the resistance in Rojava is so important. Let us not deceive ourselves. If we do not broaden our policies and unity our struggle will regress. The success of the resistance in Rojava will be the success of the North and East."

Remarking that Kurdish people's leader Öcalan is waging a struggle for the peoples of the Middle East and Turkey, not just for the Kurds, Türk underlined that Kurds are in a new period and no one can suppress their struggle, for the Kurds are certain of their future and prepared to make sacrifices for it.

"Thousands of martyrs have given their lives for freedom and the Kurds are marching towards freedom on their path. Of course we want all the peoples of the Middle East to be free, but people must realize that without freedom for the Kurds no one will be free. You may have noticed we say 'people of Kurdistan', because we see the Assyrians, Arabs, Yazidis and others as owners of Kurdistan. We do not say like certain people, 'Turkey belongs to the Turks'. We say 'Kurdistan belongs to all the peoples of Kurdistan'", DTK co-chair added.
