Türk to join President Gül in trip to Bulgaria

In an attempt to find a solution to the so called "oath-taking" crisis President Abdullah Gül will be joined by two deputies from CHP (Republican's People Party) and BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) deputy Ahmet Türk, in his two-days trip to Bulgaria.

The invitation from the president is yet another effort to find a solution to the boycotting of parliament by the BDP and the refusal to take their parliamentary oath by both CHP and BDP deputies.

The protest has been staged to highlight the lack of democracy arising from the denial of freedom to jailed deputies. The CHP has two deputies in prison in connection with the so called Ergenekon (Gladio-style criminal organization planning to overthrow the government) trial. The BDP has six deputies in prison in connection with the so called KCK (Kurdish Communities Confederation) trial. In addition the BDP is protesting against the decision by the Supreme Elections Board to strip Hatip Dicle of his mandate because of a previous conviction.
