Turkey cutting off Euphrates waters adversely affects agriculture

The Turkish state cutting off the waters of the Euphrates has resulted in water levels falling by 2 meters.

The Turkish state cutting off the waters has resulted in water levels falling by 2 meters.

The low water levels are adversely affecting agriculture, and farmers in Jirniya are worried that their harvest will be affected.

Due to these concerns, 100 farmers in the Jirniya district alone will not be sowing their fields or engaging in agricultural activity this year. Some farmers are trying to dig wells to continue with their efforts, but they also state that the water levels will have an adverse effect.

Farmer Eli El Salih protested the situation and said, “We are farmers. We have nothing else. All our livelihood comes from the agricultural activity dependent on seasons. That is why we are trying to irrigate our fields with the wells we dig, but that is not enough.”
