Kubilay added. "Turkey bears the shame to be ranked first in Europe and third in the world in workplace deaths.”

In the January-March 2019 period at least 392 workers were killed. The widespread unrest in the country, the subcontracting system and the economic crisis threaten the lives of the workers. The relevant law in force along with all its deficiencies has remained on paper and has become a legal cover for work deaths. The responsible of massacres at work, such as the Zonguldak and Soma mine accidents, are not punished.”

Kubilay continued: “The HDP is struggling for rights-based employment and decent working conditions where occupational health and safety measures are taken. We call on everyone to support this honorable struggle.”
