Victoria Kurdistanis Democratic Society Center (NAV-KURD) protested the genocidal attacks by Turkish state forces in front of the Turkish Consulate in Melbourne, Australia.
Hundreds of people attended the protest where a press statement was read by Seval Ulus, saying: “Today, thousands of Kurds in Şırnak, Nusaybin and other parts of Kurdistan are facing a threat of another massacre in front of the whole world. Kurdish politicians and activists are targeted once again, and all channels to engage in politics are closed off. If the governments of western countries, the EU, US and Australia really want democracy and stability in Turkey protected, they should take action in deciding on economic, political and military sanctions. The world powers face an important test of humanity and democracy today in the face of Erdoğan’s support for ISIS and declaration of total war on the Kurds. The atmosphere of war intensifies every day in Turkey. This war also causes a humanitarian crisis and creates a new wave of immigration towards Europe.”
Professor John Tully from Australians for Kurdistanis initiative, Lalitha Chelliah from the 3CR radio broadcasting in Melbourne, Bülent Bektaş from the Anatolian Cultural Center and Turan Ertekin from the Melbourne Peace and Democracy Bloc gave speeches. The massacrist policies in Turkey were condemned in these speeches and it was stated that the AKP government was committing a great war crime in front of the whole world.
The crowd chanted “Terrorist Erdoğan”, “Terrorist Turkey”, “Murderer Erdoğan” and “Hands off my will” frequently.
