Turkish soldiers shoot man dead on East Kurdistan border

A 45-year-old border trader was shot dead by Turkish troops early this morning near the village of Qarik (Dağdelen) in the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı province.

Memiş Arıkboğa (45) died after being shot by soldiers at a border post at around 3 o’clock this morning as he tried to cross from Iran into Turkish territory. Arıkboğa, who was accused of being a smuggler, died after being wounded in the neck.

The body of Arıkboğa, who was shot on the Turkish side of the border 5 kilometres from the village, was taken to the state hospital in Doğubeyazıt district for an autopsy.
