Twenty six people arrested in Diyarbakýr

Twenty six people were arrested in Diyarbakýr on Tuesday for allegedly “staging unpermitted demonstration” and “praising crime and guilty”. Among those arrested are also two teachers and one psychologist.

The detainees were taken into custody on 30 October, the day Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) had declared ‘day of resistance’ in solidarity with prisoners on hunger strike. Clashes broke out in the city as the governor denied permission for the group meeting BDP was planning to hold in front of Diyarbakýr E Type Prison. Police severely attacked thousands of people who took to the streets that day. The city turned into a battlefield as clashes between demonstrators and police continued the whole day.
