Two-day march for Shengal kicks off in Germany

Members of the organising committee highlighted the importance of Kurdish national unity and demanded an autonomous status for Shengal (Sinjar).

A two-day march has been launched from Celle to Hannover on Friday under the motto “Stop the genocide, status for Shengal”. The march is organised by the Shengal Council in Diaspora (MŞD).

The activists gathered at the Celle city council in the morning. A minute’s silence was observed here, which was followed by speeches of Çiçek Fikret and Carcur in the name of the organising committee.

Members of the organising committee highlighted the importance of Kurdish national unity and demanded an autonomous status for Shengal, Yazidi settlement area in Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq). The speakers pointed out that an official status for Shengal was the only way to avoid more massacres and genocide against the Yazidi people.

The two-day march is also joined by KCDK-E (European Kurdish Democratic Society Congress) co-chair Yüksel Koç, FED-DEM co-chair Tahir Koçer and FED-DEM Lower Saxony spokesperson Letîf Karakaş.

Chanting slogans commending the resistance in Shengal and Heftanin, the crowd then launched the march and are moving towards Larte now.

The march will be concluded with a rally in Hannover. The activists will submit a dossier on Shengal to the Lower Saxony State Parliament tomorrow afternoon. Kurds and their friends are called on to join the rally to be held in front of the parliament.
