Two members of Beşiktaş Çarşı group arrested
Two members of Beşiktaş football team's supporter group Çarşı have been remanded in custody for allegedly “bearing arms and bullet”.
Twenty members of the left-wing Çarşı group had been taken into custody as a result of police raids in a number of houses on Sunday. The group, with thousands of its members, has taken an active part in the protests in Istanbul and Ankara in solidarity with Gezi Park protestors. The detention of Çarşı members drew strong reactions from across the country.
Twenty supporters of Beşiktaş, one of the four main soccer teams in Turkey, were referred to Çağlayan Court on Wednesday. Fifteen were released after bearing testimony to the prosecutor, while five others were referred to another court for allegedly “being member of a criminal organization”, “provocating people to disobey laws” and “damaging public property”.
Two among them were remanded in custody for “bearing arms and bullet”, three others were admitted to bail, 50 thousand TL for each.
